Common Revolt Interview with: We Are The In Crowd

We Are The In Crowd and crew have been great to us here at Common Revolt. Last week we premiered an acoustic session the band performed for us, and now we’ve got an exclusive interview with Jordan Eckes and Tay Jardine!

The band discuss their new album, writing, possibilities of writing ballads, Is Anyone Up, nearly getting in a car crash and more. Check it out, it’s a great read!

To start things off, I heard you guys almost got into a car accident a few days ago.
Tay: Yeah, some girl did a 360 in front of our van and we almost hit her, but our TM came to the rescue.
Jordan: Yeah, I was in the back sleeping, I told my mom before we left on this tour that I was probably going to get into a car accident, haha. You hear these stories about bands doing complete 360s in the middle of a highway and surviving. But I was like, “Mom, we’ve never been in an accident”. I’ve never been in one in my life. I’d like to give a shout out to Curran Blevins for saving our lives, and that girl’s, too.

Haha, definitely props going out to Mr. Blevins. Moving forward, you guys just filmed a music video for “Lights Out” a few days ago. How did that go?
Tay: It went really well, we actually shot a bunch of videos. I’m not really sure how much we can talk about. There’s also gonna be some live footage of the GK tour, and some cool green screen stuff being done. There might be raptors chasing me, I can’t say for sure… actually, that’s a lie, not gonna happen, haha.
Jordan: It was definitely pretty crazy. Some pictures were tweeted, and put on tumblr. They’re all at very unflattering angles, shooting at the LCD screen, we look like we’re a million pounds.

I know you’ve been writing for quite some time for a full length. You put out Guaranteed To Disagree, your debut EP, just last summer. How’s writing coming along?
Tay: Writing has been going good and consistant. For the past couple weeks, Jordan and I have been writing. We went to California to write a bit, then we were in New York, then Georgia. We’ve been collecting our thoughts and getting the creative juices flowing. We’re hoping we’ll have everything we want by the time we get ready to record.
Jordan: Yeah. We’re going in around May. When we wrote the EP, we were really pressed for time. We wrote it in Mike Ferri (bassist)’s basement, 0 degrees out. That’s why we were so stoked to put work on it in California.

You mentioned that the tracks on Guaranteed To Disagree were meant to be “summer jams”, with every track maintaining an upbeat sound. Are there plans for any acoustic ballads on the full length?
Tay: Yeah. We definitely want to expand the dynamics. It’s a full length, so we have a lot more room for that kind of stuff. We definitely want the slower ballads and we also want the pop-punk / power-pop sounding songs. Ya’ know, Kelly Clarkson sounding songs, but still being us.

On a side note, the dude who runs Strike Gently really wanted to be in the “Both Sides of The Story” video…
Tay: Really, I think, one day it will happen. The day he shows his face, it will be in our video.
Jordan: Now this is gonna be on the website. What should we say to all of SG’s viewers?
Tay: Well, I wanna say none of you guys have seen me naked, and none of you will EVER see me naked, haha.

I think it’s safe to say that you won’t be seeing We Are The In Crowd on Is Anyone Up any time soon.
Jordan: The guy tweeted us the other day, but it was a bluff.
Tay: We definitely respect ourselves more than that internet bullshit.
Jordan: I mean, I’m all about girl nudes, don’t get me wrong, I’m not gay or anything. There’s just something very unflattering about a guy taking a picture of himself and sending it to a girl. There’s not much to look at. The female body is a sexy thing.

Haha, thank you for taking the time to do this short interview, it was definitely a lot of fun. Anthing else you want to add besides a new album this year?
Tay: Yeah, we’re doing a lot of things. We have some overseas plans, we’ll be recording with update videos soon. So stay tuned for more updates.
Jordan: Thank you! You can check us out on WeAreTheInCrowd.com, it’s actually our Tumblr page, it’s got all the links to stay updated with us.
